Today, one in three children in rural areas has no access to any kind of elementary education. In order to sustain themselves and their family, many of them end up as child labor. Subjected to emotional and economic stress, most of them are unaware of the opportunities available to them. Children are the future of our society, and we cannot afford to fritter away their prospects. We share the responsibility in helping the less fortunate.
The goal and function of Spread International is to create a healthy, supportive environment in which at-risk children in rural villages in the developing world can successfully gain education.
Education in rural areas has been chronically neglected and hence rural youth have been deprived of an opportunity for a better life. Spread International takes a holistic approach to this multi-faceted problem. We establish schools in remote and tribal areas, refurbishes dilapidated schools, establish and run hostels, and study centers, and provide scholarships to ranked students who are poor. This long-term, sustained investment in the education for at-risk children in rural areas will have a dramatic impact in the community and society at large.
Our current operations have focused in India. We are looking to propagate this model to rural parts of SE Asia, Africa and Latin America. A majority of the developing world population lives in rural villages. Hence our future leaders, doctors, engineers and Nobel Laureates will likely come from here... but only if they are given the opportunity.
